PHP, What the Hell?

Through the fountain of knowledge that is Wikipedia I found out that:

'PHP is a scripting language originally designed for producing dynamic web pages. It has evolved to include a command line interface capability and can be used in standalone graphical applications.'

'PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for web development and can be embedded into HTML. It generally runs on a web server, taking PHP code as its input and creating web pages as output. I think that getting a grip on PHP would be very helpful but i am not sure how deep i would want to go into it. I am guessing that it isn't something that you can quickly get your head around with limited experience of website construction.

I had a quick look for some PHP tutorials and found some on:

I think I am going to have a look through some tutorials and see how accessible PHP is and whether it is something i am going to incorporate into my website.
