Finally managed to export it as a movie after messing around with the settings for a while, it was more a case of me being stupid than my computer struggling. Below is a gif showing how the circles change colour to purple when the mouse hovers over them because the movie doesn't show this.
I have been struggling to make it so the whole sequence starts when the user clicks the start button, at the moment it just starts itself. But that's the beauty of flash, everything seems to be a bit more complicated than you first think.
